Understanding Your Colon

Before you start doing colon cleansing weight loss programs it is better that you understand first the function of colon in our bodies. The colon, also known as the large intestine, is our body’s fueling station and also its waste management system. This is one major organ of our body for waste removal in addition to skin, kidney, lungs and liver. It is said to be populated with over 100 trillion bacteria.

Toxins are accumulated in the last 5 feet of our intestinal tract. If the colon is healthy, it will eliminate toxins efficiently. An unhealthy or clogged colon pollutes our entire body system once the toxin reaches the bloodstream and liver. Inside the colon, once the water has been squeezed out, it will leave a mixture of fiber, bile acids, bacteria and cells that have been removed from the intestinal wall. If we have irregular bowel movement, there is a proliferation of fungi and bacteria and our body which reabsorbs the toxins. If the colon is healthy, it will eliminate waste for about 6 to 18 hours after each meal – which means having atleast 2 or 3 bowel movements each day.

If you experience abdominal problems, constipation, kidney and bladder problem, bad breath, vaginal infection, body odor and fingernail fungus, it means that your colon needs cleansing. Lack of exercise and stress promotes am unhealthy colon. Eating healthy food can help clean your colon. Based on studies, plan-based diets help in reducing cancer, heart disease, diabetes and other diseases. These diets benefit our colons.
